Hailing from the serene town of Ullapool, Scotland, and classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music, Anne Wood graced the NCA Triennale 2025 with a soul-stirring performance that touched every heart in the audience. With the lyrical strains of her violin entwined with the resonant depth of the sarangi and her beautiful vocals, Anne carried listeners on a journey from the misty Scottish Highlands to the majestic Himalayas.
Anne was accompanied on stage with the 'When Mountains Meet' band featuring Gillie O'Flaherty (guitar), Rakae Jamil (sitar, composer, producer, professor at NCA), Farhan Ali (bass), Ateeq Ur Rehman (percussion, coordinator at NCA) and students from the Department of Musicology.
Her music gently wove together Scottish and South Asian traditions, evoking themes of identity, belonging, and the shared language of humanity. Through her signature gig-theatre approach, Anne continues to explore how sound and spirit can bridge worlds, reminding us that music knows no borders.
The evening glowed with warmth as Prof. Dr. Murtaza Jafri (Vice Chancellor NCA), along with faculty members welcomed distinguished guests including head of the British High Commision's Lahore Office Ben Warrington, celebrated Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, and resident artists from across the world, who are participating in the NCA Triennale 2025 joined the audience in celebrating this unforgettable cultural experience.
