Artist Talk - Beate Terfloth

We hosted an engaging artist talk with Beate Terfloth, professor of drawing and printmaking, whose practice has long expanded the boundaries of drawing. Terfloth’s work has moved far beyond the page, entering sculptural, spatial, and site-responsive territories that challenge conventional perceptions of line, form, and space.

With a distinguished teaching career spanning Mozarteum University Salzburg, the University of the Arts Bremen, Stuttgart, and earlier years at NCA Lahore through the DAAD, Terfloth brought a deeply international perspective shaped by decades of artistic and academic experience. Her residencies in Paris, Tehran, Beijing, New Delhi, Gadani, and the UK further informed her evolving practice, each place adding new layers to her understanding of material and context.

As a recipient of the ars viva Kunstpreis, Terfloth has continually explored drawing as an expanded field, one that interacts dynamically with architecture, materiality, and the movement of the viewer.

At the Triennale, attendees had the opportunity to encounter her ongoing investigations into how drawing can inhabit and transform space, and to hear firsthand the thought processes behind her shifting conversations with form, site, and environment.
