The workshop on Clay Slab Building Technique, focusing on South Asian terracotta folk motifs, was successfully conducted as part of The NCA Triennale’s series of workshops at the historic Tollinton Block. Over the course of the programme, participants engaged in an in depth, hands on exploration of traditional slab-building methods used throughout South Asia.
Guided by artists Mohammed Rezaur Rahman and Yanhui Gao, the workshop offered both technical instruction and cultural insight. Participants learned how to shape and assemble clay slabs, experiment with surface textures, and interpret folk motifs drawn from centuries old terracotta traditions. The sessions encouraged creative exploration while grounding participants in the historical and symbolic foundations of regional ceramic practices.
By the conclusion of the workshop, attendees had produced their own clay pieces, each reflecting a blend of personal expression and the influence of South Asian folk aesthetics. The atmosphere remained collaborative and energetic throughout, making it a memorable and enriching component of The NCA Triennale.
