Participatory Workshop – Khak e Hayat, Ajam Collective Site Visit 'Textile Workshop' with Abdul Rahman of Trinjan

As part of The NCA Triennale, the National College of Arts hosted “Trinjan -A Workshop on Indigenous Textile Practices” with Abdul Rehman. The session revisited the region’s nearly forgotten Trinjan tradition; communal, women-led spaces devoted to creating and sustaining textiles, stories, and culture.

Abdul Rehman discussed how these age old practices were inherently sustainable, promoting harmony with the earth and community. Drawing on his research, he also reflected on local fashion education, consumption habits, and pathways toward a more sustainable textile future.

The workshop concluded with Saleema Jawwad Khawaja singing a kaafi by weaver poet Shah Hussain, beautifully tying together the themes of art, tradition, and nature.

Held on Wednesday, 5th November, at the Design Courtyard, NCA, the event celebrated the revival of indigenous knowledge and its relevance in today’s world.
