A six day workshop titled “3D Surfacing and Texturing” as part of the NCA Triennale was conducted by Ahmed Ali Hussnain. The intensive session explored the process of transforming a raw 3D head scan into a production ready digital asset. Participants engaged with industry standard techniques such as retopology, texture re-projection, and intricate skin detailing in ZBrush, followed by PBR look development in Mari across Diffuse, Roughness, and Specular maps. The final exports were tested in Unreal Engine 5 and Maya, offering students practical exposure to real time rendering environments. Emphasising color breakup, complementary palettes, and narrative depth through surface design, the workshop highlighted how subtle variations in hue and value can guide viewer attention and express character through skin.
