Workshop – Amjad Ali Daudpotto 'Kashi Tiles Painting'

The National College of Arts Triennale hosted a hands on workshop on Kashi Tiles Painting, conducted by master artisan Amjad Ali Daudpotto.

The workshop celebrated the rich legacy of Sindh’s Kashikari; a traditional craft known for its vibrant colours, intricate geometry, and floral motifs. Participants explored the complete process of creating ceramic Kashi tiles, beginning with the preparation of coloured glazes and the replication of classical patterns. The modules covered transferring designs, outlining with oil based pigments, bottle-needle painting techniques, and essential kiln-firing practices.

Through guided instruction, attendees gained practical insight into clay-body and glaze properties, engaging directly with a living craft tradition that has been passed down through generations. The workshop offered a unique opportunity for participants to experience the artistry, discipline, and cultural significance embedded in Kashi tile making.
