As part of the NCA Triennale, “Puppetry for Screen” a three day workshop led by Ayesha Kamal Bhatti, brought together students for an immersive exploration of movement, design, and storytelling. Held at the Tollinton Block, the workshop bridged traditional puppetry and modern screen techniques, guiding participants through exercises in physicality, posture, and character psychology.
Working across mediums such as paper, shadow, and wire, students learned how light, projection, and cinematography can transform simple figures into expressive screen characters. The process culminated in the creation of 30 second puppet films, each reflecting a thoughtful balance between craftsmanship and performance.
Celebrating both heritage and innovation, the workshop highlighted puppetry as a living art form, one that continues to evolve, connecting storytelling traditions with the visual language of contemporary media.
