The Furniture Basics: Woodworking & Surface Treatments workshop, conducted by Momenah Kazi on November 11, 2025, at Tollinton Block, provided participants with a hands on introduction to the fundamentals of furniture design.
The session explored essential design concepts including function, multipurpose thinking, wood joinery, surface treatments, and simple embellishments. Aimed at beginners and first time makers, the workshop combined theoretical understanding with practical exercises, enabling participants to gain confidence in woodworking and surface finishing techniques.

The workshop successfully encouraged participants to view furniture design not only as a technical skill but also as an artistic practice rooted in individual experience and experimentation.
