Workshop – Sidra Wazir Khawaja 'Rotti Kahani'

The workshop Rotti Kahani, led by Sidra Wazir Khawaja, rooted in the concept of the Edible Archive, explored Pakistan’s rich and diverse bread culture as a living repository of collective memory, labour, and resistance. Through a unique blend of craft, performance, and social dialogue, Rotti Kahani reimagined the everyday act of making roti as both nourishment and artistic expression.

Participants engaged with the cultural significance of roti, examining how its making intersected with gender, class, heritage, and community storytelling. By foregrounding the often invisible labor behind this essential food, the workshop became a reflection on collective identity and shared cultural histories.

Rotti Kahani invited attendees not only to learn and create, but also to engage in conversations about the social and emotional landscapes woven into Pakistan’s culinary traditions. It stood as a celebration of the hands that shaped, the stories that endured, and the communal bonds that formed around bread.
