The ‘Traditional Fresco Art’ workshop by Sumaira Amin opened a rare window into one of the oldest and most disciplined art practices. Rooted in earth, pigment, lime, and patience, fresco is a craft that demands both precision and surrender, painting on wet plaster before it dries, allowing colour and surface to become one.
Across eight intensive days, participants were guided through every step of the fresco making process: preparing lime plaster, mixing natural pigments, and applying paint with traditional tools used for generations. The workshop created a hands on space where artists experience the tactile beauty of working with materials in their purest, most elemental form.
Participants studied historic miniature motifs and ancient mural traditions, tracing the evolution of fresco across cultures. Through guided practice, they reinterpreted these age old patterns within contemporary sensibilities, creating works that honour the past while speaking to the present.
