Global Encounters Heritage Group’s visit to NCA

Under the banner of the Aga Khan Development Network, the Global Encounters Heritage Group led participants from various countries including USA, Canada, Kenya, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Syria, on a visit to the National College of Arts, on July 31st, 2024. The primary purpose of the visit, as stated by the Global Encounters Heritage Group, was to "experience the cultural diversity of the Muslim world, engage with expert faculty, and immerse themselves in the art, music, cuisine, and architecture" of the region.

As NCA approaches its 150th anniversary, the visit provided this diverse group an opportunity to deepen their cultural engagement. A panel discussion on art education at one of the oldest art institutes in South Asia was a highlight. Participants in the panel from NCA included the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr Murtaza Jafri; the Advisor Academics (Former HOD of Musicology), Mr. Sarwat Ali; and the Head of Architectural Theory & History, Dr. Hafsa Imtiaz.

In addition to the panel discussion, a session of performing arts was held at the Zahoor-ul-Akhlaq Gallery by the Kathak Ustaad Zikriya Sahib, who accompanied the group. This was followed by a comprehensive tour of the campus.
