Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Dr. Nakamura received her DPhil in Anthropology from the University of Oxford in 2006. She currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Asian Studies and Curator, Asia, at the Museum of Anthropology, University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Prior to joining UBC in 2014, she taught at the Australian National University and the University of Tokyo, while also curating exhibitions internationally.

Her notable exhibitions include Traces of Words: Art and Calligraphy from Asia (2017), A Future for Memory: Art and Life after the Great East Japan Earthquake (2021), and her most recent exhibition, Entangled Territories: Tibet Through Images (2026). The visit provided an opportunity for Dr. Nakamura to engage with Pakistan’s premier art and design institution, gain insight into its academic and creative practices, and explore avenues for future collaboration. Discussions focused on strengthening academic linkages, fostering cultural exchange, and identifying possibilities for showcasing and promoting Pakistani art and artists through international museum platforms, including the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.
